It is our responsibility as yoga teachers to ethically guide students through postures, by having knowledge and a deep understanding of how the machine you are guiding to move, actually moves. Without this knowledge, as well as moral and professional ethics, you are risking injuring a student both physically and emotionally.  This class will empower you to more thoroughly and precisely prepare your students for the postures you are suggesting they do, directly decreasing the risk for injury/\.

In this class you will learn:

-basic anatomy of the musculo-skeletal system in order to dive deeper into basic arthro- and osteo-kinematic principles and how they apply to yoga asana

-how to determine if a student is hypermobile or hypomobile, via observation and quick assessment

-proper and safe verbal and tactile cues using the basic anatomic and kinematic principles for safe and healing hands-on assisting techniques for the  hyper vs. hypo mobile student

In Lab, you will investigate and explore:

-Muscle and bone, palpable landmarks

-bone and joint motion based on the concave-convex rule

-lever systems of muscles and how we use this as yogi’s

-ligamentous laxity concerns in ‘dangerous postures’

-the effects of various verbal and tactile cues

Upon completion of this course you will be able to

-identify muscles and bones via observation, and tactile assessment and a written quiz

-determine and understand arthro and osteo kinematic differences in your students by observation and conversation with a role play student, and the instructor of this course.

-identify hyper vs hypo mobility in a role play student and determine if and what is causing faulty movement.

-demonstrate and apply your knowledge of anatomica and kinematic principles into how build and structure poses, via written quiz and practical scenarios

- demonstrate and apply your knowledge of anatomic and kinematic principles into how you cue, assist, and adjust your students via demonstration of instructing a sequence.

-receive 6 Yoga Alliance Approved Continuing Education Credits
